Indian students from Telangana missing in Chicago since May 2, family calls for help

Chicago police issued a statement urging people to provide information to police if they find Rupesh Chintakindi. Rupesh was missing from the 4300 block of N Sheridan Road, according to the affidavit.

Hyderabad: An Indian student from Telangana has been reported missing in Chicago since May 2. 25-year-old Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi is pursuing a master’s degree at Concordia University, Wisconsin. The Consulate General of India in Chicago said it is liaising with police and the Indian diaspora to locate/reestablish contact with Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi. The consulate is very concerned about the fact that Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi has been incommunicado since May 2. The consulate is in contact with law enforcement and the Indian diaspora in hopes of locating/reestablishing contact with Rupesh,” CGI Chicago said.

Rupesh Chandra Chintakind’s father Ch Sadanandam, a resident of Hanamkonda district, said he spoke to his son via WhatsApp on May 2 afternoon. He replied that he was doing some work. Later, I could not contact him and he is offline,” he said, according to TOI. The family spoke to his housemates. They reportedly told him he was going to meet someone from Texas who had come to meet him. but we don’t know who they are,” the family said.

Sadanandam has contacted Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy for help in locating his son. Minister Reddy’s office has written to the Ministry of External Affairs seeking assistance from CGI Chicago in tracking down Rupesh

The Indian student community in the US has been rocked by a series of unfortunate events in recent months. Arafat, a student from Hyderabad who completed his master’s degree in IT from Ohio, was reported missing in March and later found dead. His family received a ransom after he went missing, putting a sinister twist on the tragedy.

This incident follows the untimely death of Uma Satya Sai Gadde in Cleveland, Ohio, further highlighting the vulnerability of Indian students abroad.

Another student, Syed Mazahir Ali, faced a brutal attack in Chicago, raising concerns about the safety of Indian students in the US.

The Indian Consulate in Chicago is actively involved in providing support to the victims and their families. These incidents are a stark reminder of the challenges faced by Indian students studying abroad and the importance of ensuring their safety and well-being.
