The Pentagon announced yesterday that the US military has completed construction of the floating port off the coast of Gaza.

The floating port, which the United States started construction last month and will cost at least $320 million, aims to deliver more humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, which has been witnessing Israeli military operations against Hamas for seven months.

US Department of Defense Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh said in a statement to reporters: “Today, construction of the floating port has been completed with both parts” awaiting their relocation to the designated site near Gaza.

She added: “Today, forecasts still predict expected strong winds and high sea waves, creating unsafe conditions for the transportation of the floating port components. Therefore, parts of the port and the military ships involved in its construction are still in the port of Ashdod, in southern Israel.

She emphasized that U.S. Central Command “is ready to move the port to its location in the near future.”

On Friday, the US military announced that its forces had moved the construction site of the floating port to the Israeli port of Ashdod due to strong waves and winds.

When weather conditions become favorable, the floating dock will be moved to the designated location opposite Gaza, and Israeli soldiers will install its floating dock on the coast of the Gaza Strip to keep American soldiers away from its territory.

The aid will then be transported by commercial ships to a floating platform off the coast of Gaza, to be transferred to smaller ships that will deliver the aid to the pier connected to the shore, and finally go ashore after it arrives in the port is loaded. distribution trucks.

US President Joe Biden first announced plans to build the pier in early March, in light of Israel’s disruption of land aid deliveries.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains poor, in light of the destruction after more than six months of Israeli operations against Hamas.
A senior U.S. government official said last week that all 2.2 million residents of the Strip are experiencing food insecurity.
