The theme of this year’s World Press Freedom Day is “A press for the planet: journalism in the face of the environmental crisis”.

World Press Freedom Day focuses on the crucial role of journalism and freedom of expression in tackling the global environmental crisis.

Journalists play a crucial role in raising awareness about environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.

However, journalists face challenges such as disinformation campaigns and attacks on their credibility.

The United Nations notes that a comprehensive strategy is needed to address these challenges and promote sustainable development.

This includes protecting journalists from harm, ensuring freedom of expression and access to information, promoting diverse media, regulating digital platforms and increasing media literacy among the public.

World Press Freedom Day reminds us of the importance of press freedom and is a platform to assess the state of the press worldwide, defend media independence and honor journalists who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
