Scientists have found the origin of Saturn’s moon Mimas’ underground liquid ocean

Scientists discovered that beneath the icy exterior of Mimas, a moon of Saturn, lies a vast liquid ocean. Now the team behind this find has uncovered the mystery of its origins.

Scientists thought that Mimas began orbiting the planet in a less extended manner because Saturn’s gravity was pulling on it. As a result, the icy layer on Mimas became thinner. That would have created the ocean between 2 and 25 million years ago.
