Jersey City fire: Flames drive 10 families, including 6 children, from their homes

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (WABC) — Ten Jersey City families, including six children, have evacuated their homes after a devastating fire.

The fire spread to three buildings on West Side Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

To prevent the flames from spreading, firefighters had to break through the roof.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed someone threw a lit cigarette into an air duct.

No one was injured.

The Red Cross supports families in finding housing.
