Sam Ankrah promises to improve employee well-being in his May 1 speech

Dr. Sam Ankrah, an independent presidential candidate and leader of Alternative Force for Action (AFA), has extended his sincere greetings to Ghanaian workers and recognized their commitment to the growth of the country.

In a speech on Workers’ Day on May 1, 2024, Dr. Ankrah took the opportunity to outline his commitment to improving working conditions in Ghana.

“On this momentous occasion of International Workers Day, I extend my warmest congratulations to all Ghanaian workers across the country. Today, we honor your tireless efforts, unwavering dedication and significant contributions to the progress and development of our country,” he said in a statement carried by GhanaWeb.

“As we celebrate this day, I want to emphasize the urgent need for fair labor practices, better working conditions and a commitment to protect the rights and dignity of all workers. As the leader of Alternative Force for Action (AFA) and presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections, I pledge to prioritize the welfare and well-being of workers if elected President of Ghana,” the statement read in part.

He promised to introduce a living minimum wage, ban the carrying of heavy loads on the head, provide tricycles for Kayayo workers and introduce mandatory pension schemes.

He proposed the abolition of the mandatory retirement age and the launch of apprenticeship programs to increase skills and employability.

The presidential hopeful emphasized the importance of investing in human capital and fostering a sense of patriotism and unity among workers.

“Let us work together to build a more just, equitable and prosperous Ghana for all,” the statement concluded.

On this momentous occasion of International Workers Day, I extend my warmest congratulations to all Ghanaian workers across the country. Today we honor your tireless efforts, unwavering dedication and significant contributions to the progress and development of our country.

As we celebrate this day, I want to emphasize the urgent need for fair labor practices, better working conditions and a commitment to protect the rights and dignity of all workers. As the leader of Alternative Force for Action (AFA) and as a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections, I pledge to prioritize the welfare and well-being of workers if elected President of Ghana.

Our vision for the Ghanaian labor market includes:

1. Introducing a living minimum wage to guarantee decent incomes and a dignified life for all workers. 2. Promote health and safety by prohibiting the carrying of heavy loads on human heads and promoting safer working practices. 3. Providing tricycles to Kayayo workers to ease their burdens and improve their working conditions. 4. Implementing mandatory pension schemes for all employees to ensure a secure future. 5. Abolition of the mandatory retirement age, so that employees can choose when to retire in a dignified manner. 6. Introduction of internship programs to develop skills, increase employability and promote innovation. 7. Investing in human capital development through training, capacity building and education. 8. To promote patriotism, ethical standards and national unity among workers, and to promote a more prosperous Ghana for all.
