documentary …

An original documentary by Cheryle Franceschi, Por Eco Productions, One Idea/Dos Languages, LLC

ELDERSBURG, Md. – “Food, Fiber, & The Female Farmer” is the fourth original documentary from conservation filmmaker Cheryle Franceschi, due out in 2024. A tapestry of authentic stories that connect history, food systems and the planet – themselves.

In the film, one story shows how restoration efforts at the Horn Point Laboratory, part of the University of Maryland System, are improving the waters and oyster populations in the state of Maryland.

The Chesapeake Bay is home to some of the most important ecological service providers living in the nation’s largest estuary. Bivalve mollusks from the Chesapeake Bay are filter feeders that help clean the water and reduce shoreline erosion. They also provide heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids on your plate. Sustainable aquaculture, supported by research, provides important data for managing oyster recovery efforts. Along the banks of the Choptank River, scientific work is increasing the oyster population and improving water quality. According to Stephanie Tobash Alexander, manager of Horn Point Hatchery, “last year we produced more than 6.7 billion eyed larvae to produce the 1.76 billion spit. Erupted when 75% of the larvae were restored and 25% went to industrial plantations.”

Production on “Food, Fiber, & The Female Farmer” wraps up next month.

Such as Earth Month 2024, Franceschi’s sister documentary; “Forest Her: The Next Wave of Conservation” has received festival laurels from the Utopia Film Festival, the Community Stories Film Festival (Environmental Voices Track) and the Maryland International Film Festival, and is offered to PBS stations by NETA Program Services. Efforts are underway to have Por Eco Productions, One Idea/Dos Languages present “Food, Fiber, & The Female Farmer” on public television for station wagon.
