The police kill the suspected kidnapper, rescue victims and recover weapons in Delta

Police in Abraka Division, Ethiopia East Local Government Area of ​​Delta State, led by SP Fabian Ayameh, in collaboration with Abraka vigilante and hunter group, have killed a suspected kidnapper in Okuno, Orogun community in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

However, other members of the criminal gang escaped from the crime scene.

Police also rescued two kidnapping victims (names withheld) and reunited them with their families.

It was determined that the suspect suffered serious gunshot wounds during a shootout between him and members of his criminal gang. He died at a hospital where he was rushed for medical treatment, DAILY POST reports.

Police also recovered one AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition from the suspect from the crime scene.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the report in a statement.

He said: “On 26/4/2024, at about 9:00 am, the command received an intelligence report that some suspected kidnappers were hibernating in Okuno, Orogun, where they were hiding alongside some kidnapped victims. The Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, directed the DPO Abraka Division SP Fabian Ayameh to lead police officers to their hideout.”

According to SP Edafe, the DPO quickly mobilized and stormed the bush, engaging the suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, with one of the suspects sustaining serious gunshot wounds while others escaped.

He said: “The manhunt for the other fleeing suspects is ongoing.”
