Power outages that negatively impact businesses, address the problem immediately – GUTA

The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has explained how the current power outages are negatively impacting businesses.

According to the union, the negative impact of the power outages on the entire economy is overwhelming, as it affects every aspect of productivity, from agriculture and trade to industry.

For example, manufacturers find it difficult to maintain production schedules and make plans for their workers due to the inconsistency in power supply, which also increases production costs and worsens people’s living conditions, GUTA said.

Publishing a timetable for the load shedding can only be done by the Minister of Energy – Osafo-Maafo

A statement they released said: “Traders-shop owners, wholesalers, tailors and tailors, electricians, artisans and all those who use electricity in their businesses are suffering a major setback due to this ‘Dumsor’ phenomenon, creating an unbearable situation arises for companies. in the country.

“We demand to know the following from ECG:

1. What is/are the real cause of the country’s erratic power outages?

2. What attempts are being made to resolve the problem?; And

3. On what timeline?

“ECG should also provide Ghanaians with a timetable for the ‘dumsor’ so that we can plan our business activities. Furthermore, due to the unpredictable power outages, most shop owners resort to using generators, purchasing and storing gasoline for generator use in the event of an unexpected power outage. This is not only contrary to the safety and security of our markets, but is also a dangerous practice made necessary by the ‘dumsor’ phenomenon and must be remedied quickly.

The Energy Committee directs ECG to publish the load shedding schedule

“We express our solidarity with all those affected by this avoidable ‘dumsor’ crisis and call for urgent action from the government to alleviate the hardships we are going through, especially the business community.”
