Police in Finland have warned parents and schools about a challenge spreading on the social media platform TikTok, which is encouraging children and young people to take a knife to school on Wednesday, April 24.

In a statement released on Wednesday, police recalled that it is illegal to bring sharp weapons into a school or carry them in public places.

If a child is found to be carrying a weapon, police will investigate and file a child protection order, the statement said.

Reports that the challenge is spreading via TikTok, a short video sharing platform, were relayed by parents and schools across Finland.

Schools in various parts of the country sent messages to parents through the Wilma messaging system, urging them to discuss the issue with their children.

News of the challenge comes in the wake of a tragic school shooting in the city of Vantaa earlier this month.
