Photos and video: launch of the vaccination week

The Department of Health kicked off America’s Vaccination Week with a wave to commuters, aiming to strengthen immunization efforts and promote public health awareness.

A government spokesperson said: “Each year, as part of America’s Vaccination Week, more than 40 countries and territories in the Americas come together to recognize the importance of immunizing and vaccinating their populations.

“The theme of Vaccination Week is ‘Engage Now to Protect your Future’. This morning, Department of Health team members gathered at Crow Lane and Trimingham Hill Roundabout to wave to commuters to mark the start of Vaccination Week.”

“During Vaccination Week, we are doing our utmost to help those who may not always have consistent access to healthcare,” said Health Minister Kim Wilson, JP, MP, during her press conference this morning. “Our goal during Vaccination Week is to encourage more people to get vaccinated so we can reduce diseases that vaccines can prevent from spreading in our community.

“This week we are going to encourage everyone to get the MMR and HPV vaccines so people know how important they are.”

The government spokesperson said: “On Thursday, May 25, the Department of Health will host a live panel discussion entitled “Let’s Talk Vaccination” on Facebook Live. Health professionals from the private and public sectors will share insights from 5:30 p.m. Watch https://www.facebook.com/DepartmentofHealthBermuda.

“In addition, the Department of Health will be holding a free vaccination catch-up clinic on Wednesday, May 1 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. This clinic is specifically intended for people who need to catch up on their vaccinations.

“The Department of Health has produced the Bermuda Health-Abets podcast, which covers all facets of healthy living, from A to Z. This week’s episode spotlights America’s Vaccination Week and celebrates progress in the public health achieved through vaccination efforts. It also encourages the community to protect themselves, their loved ones and the wider community through vaccination.
