5 Bonos Dormaahene proposed as eligible running mates of Bawumia

During a recent campaign tour by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Chairman of the Bono Regional Council of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, advocated the selection of a Bono native as the running mate for the ruling party. .

The Dormaahene expressed concern that a strong push for a running mate from a specific region could alienate voters from other regions and undermine the nuclear power plant’s electoral prospects.

He implored Dr. Bawumia to consider candidates from the Bono area, noting that there are many potential candidates worthy of the position.

He mentioned people like Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Member of Parliament for Techiman South; Ignatius Barfour Awuah, Member of Parliament for Sunyani West; Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Dormaa Central MP; Mahama Afful, former MP for Jaman South; and Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, as worthy candidates who also hail from the Bono area.

“The Bono region also deserves it; I am not saying that the others from other regions do not deserve it, but I am also looking for the good for myself.

“I noticed some Bonos following you here today; Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, are you not here? Isn’t he a subject of Techimanhene? He is worthy of the post.

“How could I put it and leave out Ignatius Baffour Awuah? I went to school with him, and I’ve never heard anything bad about that man sitting there. He does everything to perfection…

“Mr. Vice President, Ignatius Baffour Awuah is also worthy to be your candidate. There may even come a time when I too will dress up and join his campaign.

“There is also one of my subjects named Kwaku Agyemang-Manu; he also deserves the post. I have not mentioned the name Mahama Afful. He is here, and if he gets the position, he will definitely bring me some people from the development in Dormaa Ahenkro.

“The point I want to make is that the person you will choose as your running mate, we in the Bono region and as far as Bono East, have an interest in it. We also want our people to be mentioned.

“If you settle for Abronye (Kwame Baffoe), he will never turn his back on me. That is why we implore you to expand your search. We will understand you if others are chosen, but we will appreciate you all the more if one of us has been settled,” he claimed.

With about seven months to go until the 2024 general elections, Vice President Bawumia launched his official campaign late last month.

However, he has not yet named a running mate for the elections.

Several names have emerged and there are strong calls for the selection of a candidate from the Ashanti region, the party’s stronghold.

Nevertheless, some critics believe the search for the party’s running mate should transcend regional and ethnic factors.
