Western Australia is investing $25 million in attracting major events to the state

Western Australia’s tourism industry will benefit from a AU$36.6 million investment boost as part of the 2024-25 state budget, according to the Australian Hotels Association (WA).

The association welcomed the move by the government, which will invest AU$25 million into the Major Events Fund over the next four years and create a new $3.6 million Metro Events program to support local residents and out-of-state visitors to attract.

“This new funding will play an important role in strengthening WA’s reputation as an events destination, attracting new visitors to the state and driving economic growth for our hotel and hospitality sector,” said AHA CEO Bradley Woods (WA).

“This is a welcome development for the industry and the wider community, and we look forward to seeing visitor numbers increase, along with new opportunities to showcase our world-class hospitality venues and promote WA beyond our borders.”

The Australian Hotels Association (WA) also welcomed additional funding of AU$4.9 million to support the work of the Tourism Workforce Development Program, an initiative aimed at strengthening and supporting the tourism workforce.

“Our hospitality industry depends on employees to deliver excellent customer experiences, so it is critical that we can continue to attract quality candidates to the industry and enable them to pursue it as a fulfilling and rewarding career of choice,” said Woods .

“This funding will ensure that we can develop a skilled and knowledgeable workforce capable of delivering services and experiences that will contribute to the growth and sustainability of the tourism sector.”
