Sanwo-Olu, Abiodun to attend the architects conference

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, are expected to join the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Architects to discuss environmental sustainability at the institute’s annual conference.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, David Majekodunmi, stated this at a recent press conference in Lagos to announce the 15th edition of LAF.

The event will take place between May 8 and 11, 2024 at the Balmoral Convention Center at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja.

According to him, formulating ways to help Lagos State deal with challenges such as floods, rapids and pressure on infrastructure due to climate change will be the focus of this year’s Lagos Architect Forum.

He said: “It is about understanding sustainable development strategies such as green infrastructure, coastal protection and community engagement to build resilience to future climate impacts.

“Lagos faces numerous challenges, but is also implementing innovative approaches to increase its resilience and adapt to climate change.”

Other prominent names expected at the event include environmentalist Desmond Majekodunmi; a former Attorney General of Lagos, Olasupo Shashore; and Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, among others.

Lagos, Nigeria’s most populous city, is plagued by problems such as air pollution, water pollution, solid waste management, urban poverty, deforestation, desertification, wind erosion and increasing flooding, creating greater risk to the environment and people.

This year’s LAF’s emphasis on the environment aligns with recent efforts by built environment players to incorporate environmental sustainability into their building designs.
