President visits Ambewela dairy farm; orders to improve tourist facilities – The Island

President Ranil Wickremesinghe visited the Ambewela dairy farm on April 20 to review its progress. The visit marked the President’s return to the farm since his sudden inspection visit in December 2022. Following his directives during the previous visit, a comprehensive development initiative was launched at the farm last year.

President Wickremesinghe was warmly received by the dairy farm’s general manager Sarath Bandara and the staff. During his visit, the President reviewed the progress of the new development initiatives and inspected the premises where the dairy cows are kept.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe then held a brief conversation with staff, during which he assessed the incremental growth of Ambewela Farm and its contribution to the national economy. He underlined the importance of implementing various tourism promotion programs for tourists visiting the farm.

In addition, President Wickremesinghe interacted with local and foreign tourists who visited the farm over the weekend, engaging in friendly conversations and inquiring about their experiences.

Sarath Bandara expressed her gratitude for President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s support for the development of the farm during his tenure as Prime Minister and appreciated the President’s frequent visits to the farm.

Bandara noted that during President Wickremesinghe’s visit in December 2022, daily milk production was about 40,000 liters. However, as a result of subsequent modernization initiatives, the farm is expected to reach a daily milk production of 52,000 liters by the end of this year, representing an increase of 30%.

He highlighted the farm’s goal of reaching a production capacity of 20 million liters of milk per year through gradual increases in milk production. He highlighted that Ambewela Group has developed high-quality dairy cow breeds in Sri Lanka, with all activities related to cow management, including feeding, weighing, disease identification and segregation, automated and mechanized.

Furthermore, in line with the directives of the President during his previous visit, the farm has opened its doors to research and experiential learning opportunities for students of Sri Lankan universities. .

He noted that a significant number of local and foreign tourists visit Ambewela Dairy Farm every day, with one particular day this year marking the arrival of 9,000 tourists.

Significant efforts have been made to improve the facilities available to these visitors, ensuring a more enjoyable and enriching experience during their stay at Ambewela Dairy Farm.
