GOP Governor Caught Lying About Trump Affair

CNN’s Jake Tapper, via Mediaite, has brutally fact-checked North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum’s stunning claim that former President Donald Trump’s hush money lawsuit was based on a “corporate filing error.”

It has been noted that Trump is currently on trial in New York on 34 charges of falsifying business records to pay porn actress Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election to keep her quiet about their alleged affair.

Trump is considering Burgum as one of several candidates for his vice presidential running mate. Tapper asked: “According to polls, a large number of American people think President Trump committed a crime when it comes to this case, and if you add to that those who think it was unethical but not illegal, it’s a large majority . Let me ask you: If this case makes Donald Trump a convicted felon, will that affect your support for him as president?

Burgum replied:

Well, if he becomes a convicted felon in this case, that’s just a travesty of justice, because, as I just said, if you’ve made a business mistake that is intended for something, then again it’s not illegal to pay. for confidentiality agreements. That happens all the time. I’m sure this network and others have done that. So that is not illegal. And then you have, you know, again, they’re trying to do this.

And the only reason this process is happening now is the process that could actually be brought forward. The other four could not be brought forward, and the other three of the four could not be brought forward before the election. So this is largely intended to try to achieve a result before the elections. And then you can be sure, as Americans know, that any appeal after the election will be postponed. That’s why everyone sees that this is politically motivated.

And, as I said, a reporting error is not something that affects the American people trying to put food on the table and put gas in their car; it doesn’t affect them. And so this is why the outcome of this process will not change many people’s minds. It could even help President Trump in some ways, as it reinforces the idea that the Biden administration is willing to use legal practices to try to attack a political opponent.

Tapper responded, “There is no evidence that Joe Biden had anything to do with this case brought forth by District Attorney Bragg, and you continue to refer to it as a filing error. I think that’s one interpretation.

“Another interpretation is that Donald Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid hush money to hide from the American people before the election. The fact that Mr. Trump had dated a porn star, and they wanted to keep it hidden from the American people until after the election. So far the evidence, and I’ve seen it, suggests that there was at least a political motivation for it, and they hid it to hide that from the public. That’s a little more than just checking the wrong box on a form. But let’s move on.”
