“The ground attack on Rafah will begin soon,” says

Israel’s Occupation War Minister Yoav Gallant said on Sunday that a ground attack on Rafah would take place “as soon as possible” after a Hamas attack that killed two soldiers and wounded others at the Karam Abu Salem border crossing.

During an inspection of troops in the ‘Netzarim’ axis that divides the Gaza Strip, Gallant noted: ‘It appears that Hamas has no intention of reaching an agreement, so a military operation in Rafah and the entire Gaza Strip will soon take place.’

Two Israeli occupation soldiers were killed and several others injured on Sunday after between 10 and 30 rockets struck the border area of Karam Abu Salem.

The Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Israeli occupation army reported that shells were fired from Rafah in southern Gaza towards the border crossing, which is now closed to help trucks heading into the Strip.

The Karam Abu Salem border crossing is crucial for delivering much-needed humanitarian aid to Gaza. The incident comes amid a humanitarian crisis in Gaza with shortages of food, medicine and other supplies.
