$20 box of vegetables ‘not even one-third full’: Disgruntled customer told menu photo is ‘for reference’, Singapore News

A food delivery customer recently took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with his meal after claiming what he ordered turned out to be “completely different” from the menu.

In a Facebook post on Saturday (May 4), user Nan Wei shared how she placed a takeout order from Alijiang in Vivo City via the Deliverychinatown app.

However, when the food arrived, she was disappointed by the portion size of a vegetable dish that cost $19.95.

“The (takeaway) box was not even a third full,” said Nan Wei.

“I contacted Deliverychinatown to complain about the pathetic amount of vegetables served for what (I) had to pay.”

After lamenting that the amount of vegetables served was completely different from the photo on the menu, Nan Wei said the response she received was that the latter was for “for reference only.”

According to screenshots from a series of messages, a Deliverychinatown representative told Nan Wei that the eatery would not issue a refund because there were no issues with portion size.

Nan Wei had also rejected the food delivery company’s offer of a $3 voucher for the next order.

“I understand that the amount of food served may differ from what was advertised on the menu, but in this case the amount served was completely off,” the disgruntled user said in the Facebook post. “This is a total scam.”

In the comments, a netizen said that eateries usually sell dishes based on portion size, and not on the size of takeout containers.

“The chef usually puts the ingredients in the box according to size, and it actually fits in the box. Only after cooking does it shrink,” another added.

AsiaOne has contacted Nan Wei and Alijiang for more details.
