“It’s not that we didn’t try…”

Sunny Deol has a wide legacy as Deol is all part of the Indian film industry. Dharmendra has done films, his brother Bobby has made a successful comeback. Now, in the current episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol are the guests.

Sunny gave his best and spoke about their life struggles that the family has faced in an attempt to make a comeback in films. He also said that his success has doubled since Gadar 2 was a hit. Speaking about the efforts he has made in the film industry, he said, “It has been many years since many things have happened. We worked on several fronts and did our utmost. It’s not that we didn’t try. I was involved in different things, Bobby tried it too and Dad did it too. But with the marriage of my son and the arrival of a daughter in our house, the atmosphere suddenly changed completely.”

He went on to talk about how all three of them have been there for each other through thick and thin, and how things have changed for them after their comeback. He said: “Dad’s been in the film industry since the 1960s. We’ve been in the spotlight ever since and we’ve seen a lot of things, all arriving and departing in their own time. But the way things happen this time and the kind of love that we receive from the public, people always loved us, daddy gets so much love and that’s why we, Bobby, all receive so much love.”

He expressed himself further. “We couldn’t understand why things weren’t falling into place. After my daughter-in-law came, Gadar 2 was released, before Papa’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was released. When Gadar 2 came out, I couldn’t understand what was happening because I laughed and cried inside at the same time. It was incredible. Where did God reveal himself? Then Animal was released.

He also talked about not getting any subsequent roles from the industry, while deciding to create Gadar 2, and was told, “It’s old cinema, even the director is old. Who’s going to watch it?” But you guys have proven that you want to watch it.”

Sunny Deol’s film Gadar 2 became the sixth highest-grossing Indian film of the year. He has made several attempts at a cinematic comeback in the past, but none of them have been very well received.
