ASI crushed to death by sand mafia tractor in MP, 3 arrested

BHOPAL: An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) was reportedly crushed to death by a sand mafia tractor in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh.

The deceased has been identified as Mahendra Bagri.

Bagri had gone to catch a perpetrator when the tractor, loaded with illegally extracted sand, crushed him to death.

Two other policemen accompanying Bagri ran from the spot to save their lives and alerted senior officials.

Police have arrested three suspects, including the tractor driver. However, the main suspect, who was allegedly involved in illegal sand mining, was still in hiding, police said on Sunday.

Police have announced a reward of Rs 30,000 for the absconding suspect, Surendra Singh, a resident of Beohari area, about 40 km from Shahdol district headquarters.
