IOM Director General Amy Pope comes to Dhaka

United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director General Amy Pope is coming to Dhaka. She will visit Bangladesh on Sunday (May 5). Migration and Rohingya issues will feature prominently during her visit.

It is learned that the heads of various United Nations organizations will visit Dhaka to mark 50 years of relations. The visit begins with IOM Director General Amy Pope. According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, the Director General of IOM will visit Bangladesh from May 5 to 9. Amy starts her tour with a visit to a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.

According to diplomatic sources, Natalia Kanem, the executive director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will visit Dhaka in the middle of this month. In addition, Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, will arrive in Dhaka at the end of this month.

During the visit to Dhaka, the Director General of IOM had a courtesy call with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud. Amy will also hold a meeting with Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment.
