Ukrainian air defense units destroyed 23 of 24 Shahed-type drones that Russia launched overnight, the air force said on May 5.

The Russian drones were launched from the neighboring Kursk Oblast in Russia, as well as from Cape Chauda in occupied Crimea.

All drones launched by Russia were intercepted over Kharkiv, Kherson and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. Mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force were involved in repelling the airstrikes.

Earlier this evening, Russia launched drone strike on Kharkov, which set fire to at least three residential houses in the city of Kharkov and injured one man. Debris from the shooting of the drones in the city’s Osnovianskyi district reportedly caused the fire.

Drone attacks are a daily occurrence in Ukraine and affect several regions in the country. Overnight stay on May 4, Ukrainian air defense destroyed all thirteen Shahed-type drones that Russia launched overnight.

In the past months, Russian attacks on critical infrastructure have increasingly focused on Ukrainian energy facilities.
