GoFundMe has been set up for a local family devastated by a house fire

A fundraising campaign has been launched for the Barrie family who lost their home and vehicles in a fire earlier this week.

The fire in the early hours of Wednesday in the north of the city caused significant damage to the house, with one person suffering minor injuries.

As of 1 p.m. Friday, 29 donations have been made to an online GoFundMe campaign, raising $5,275 of the $10,000 goal.

Yvonne Munshaw of Barrie, who is listed as an organizer of the fundraiser, could not be reached for comment.

However, she wrote in the details of the GoFundMe page that her best friend and colleague’s house “went up in flames… everyone survived and everything is fine.”

“She lost everything, even her car,” Munshaw added. “I hope we can all come together to help her in any way we can. She would never ask anyone for anything, and I do that too. This woman is the hardest working person I know.”

Barrie Fire and Emergency Service crews responded to the call for a fire at 56 Geddes Cres., near Livingstone Street West and Sunnidale Road, around 4 a.m. on April 17.

Everyone in the house escaped the fire, with one person suffering minor injuries. They were treated at the scene by ambulance personnel.

“The scene has been released to the homeowners’ representatives,” Assistant Deputy Chief Derek Wilson said Friday.

“The fire started in the garage. Our investigators are still in the process of determining the cause,” he added.

No damage estimate has been provided at this time.
