Radio Havana Cuba | French association with the Cuban people.

By Maria Josefina Arce

Solidarity is the word that defines the relationship between our country and CubaCoop, a French group that, since its creation in 1995, has supported the Cuban people and accompanied their struggle against the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.

Over the years, several campaigns have been launched by the Cuba Cooperación Francia Association to denounce the damage done to Cuban families by the economic siege, which it describes as unjust and inhumane.

But also to raise money for essential areas such as healthcare, education and food. In early February last year, France even called for donations of funds to purchase food and basic necessities for hospitals and other health facilities, as well as for homes for children without filial support.

The organization’s solidarity intensified during the COVID 19 pandemic, despite the tightening of the blockade by then US President Donald Trump, with the adoption of 240 measures.

Money was raised for health care on French territory and medical equipment and medicines were sent to the Greater Antilles.

But CubaCoop’s support goes further than that and participates in various social benefit projects in different places on the Cuban territory. It collaborates in sectors such as water and sanitation, renewable energy, food, culture and sport.

It is also present in helping children with disabilities and the elderly, two very vulnerable sectors of the population seriously affected by the restrictions imposed by hostile US policies.

And for the past two years, it has sent equipment to support the preparation and acclimatization of Cuban athletes who will participate in the Olympic and Paralympic competitions in Paris, the French capital, in the summer.

Cubacoop continues to explore new areas of cooperation with the Cuban authorities and to that end, a large delegation of the group, consisting of businessmen, local authorities and representatives of political forces and trade unionists, has been in the Caribbean nation since the end of last month.

The French association is determined to accompany the Cuban people in their struggle against the blockade and in their goal of making progress in building a better country.
