Sensitive deafness surgery at the Monaldi Hospital in Naples, regional reference center for cochlear implants and advanced implantology activities. A 16-year-old young man has recovered his hearing thanks to the implantation of a latest generation ‘OSIA’ prosthesis.

The operation was performed at the Complex Operational Unit of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of the Colli Hospital, under the direction of Professor Giuseppe Tortoriello, and was performed by doctors Giuseppe Barba and Rosa Grassia.

The patient, who suffered from Franceschetti syndrome, a rare condition that affects craniofacial development, had abnormal development of the jaw and the absence of the external ear.

Thanks to the innovative treatment, which provides a personalized solution tailored to the patient’s needs, the young man regained his hearing and was able to lead a normal life again.

“It is the first time that this specific device has been used at Monaldi for the treatment of complex craniofacial conditions, allowing us to guarantee tangible improvements in patients’ quality of life,” explains Tortoriello.

“Monaldi is an advanced deafness surgery center with the implantation of 22 bionic ears in the past year.

In addition, the results achieved with laryngeal oncology surgery are exceptional, and 54 patients from other regions have chosen to be treated by the UOC under the leadership of Professor Tortoriello,” is the comment of the General Manager of the Colli Hospital , Anna Iervolino.
