A male cheetah Pawan was rescued from Karoli district in Rajasthan under difficult circumstances after it strayed from Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh and crossed into Rajasthan, an official statement said on Saturday. The animal will be transferred to Kuno National Park and released into the wild.

Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Director Lion Project said in a statement: “With a huge crowd of spectators and the animal cornered at the top of the ravine after shooting, the animal had to be physically handled to prevent it from it tumbled over the ravine. After the successful rescue, the animal will be transferred to Kuno National Park and released into the wild.” It is noteworthy that Pawan was at large in Kuno and crossed the inter-state border early this morning, amidst a human-dominated landscape.

“Considering the safety of the animal and the people, it was decided to save Pawan. The management of Kuno National Park expresses its gratitude to the staff of the Forest and Police Department of Rajasthan for their support in the operation,” the statement said. (ANI)
