Undocumented man shot in Texas: confrontation turns violent

SAN ANTONIO, TX (2 minute read) – Late Wednesday night, a confrontation at a Northwest Side apartment complex led to two people being hospitalized after a shooting. The event took place at an apartment on Vance Jackson Road, near Fredericksburg Road, around 9:30 p.m.

According to police reports, the incident began when an undocumented couple got into a heated argument in their apartment. William Oliver, 49, a neighbor, intervened and asked the couple to lower their voices. In response, a 21-year-old man reportedly pointed a firearm at Oliver’s head, making threats in Spanish. Oliver retreated to his own apartment after the confrontation.

Oliver later believed that the young man attempted to force his way into his home, prompting him to arm himself with a shotgun loaded with birdshot. In the ensuing confusion, he shot at the door, hitting the 21-year-old in the hand and foot. The shooting also injured an unintentional female bystander in the leg.

It is critical to emphasize the risks associated with shooting through doors or other barriers without a clear line of sight. Such actions can lead to unintended harm or legal consequences, such as for the female bystander in this incident, as it is critical to positively identify a target before discharging a firearm.

Both injured people were transported to a local hospital and are listed in stable condition. So far, William Oliver has not been charged in connection with the incident.

Firearm safety tip: Always ensure that your firearm is used responsibly and in a manner consistent with local law, especially in tense situations where your judgment may be clouded by emotions.
