Gillian Anderson, 55, closes Golden Globes 2024 red carpet in dress with vaginas: ‘It’s remarkable’

The ‘Sex Education’ star said she chose the Gabriela Hearst look ‘for so many reasons’ and also said it was inspired by peonies

Gillian Anderson knows how to make a fashion statement.

The Sex education The 55-year-old star stepped onto the red carpet at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards in a custom ivory strapless Gabriela Hearst gown, which she said was embroidered with vaginas.

“(I wore it) for so many reasons,” the actress said Deadline of female anatomy design, and adds, “it’s appropriate for the brand.”

Inside, she told PEOPLE — after getting a hug from Jennifer Garner — that the dress had floral inspiration, noting that what she loved most about it was that “it’s covered in peonies!”

According to the label, embroidering each motif on the dress took 3.5 hours.

Anderson accessorized the bold look with plenty of Chopard jewels, including an 18k white gold necklace with a 10-carat pear-shaped yellow diamond and nearly 30 carats of diamonds, earrings in 18k yellow gold and 18k white gold with four pear-shaped yellow diamonds totaling 15 carats of yellow diamonds and a pair of white diamonds totaling 0.50 carats and an 18k white gold bracelet with 13 carats of diamonds and an 18k yellow gold ring set with diamonds.

Perhaps the most glamorous part of Anderson’s look was her hair. The actress left just a few strands of gray roots sticking out from the crown of her head, fully embracing the naturalness of her hair. The rest of her blonde hair was swept back and styled in a soft wave.

She kept her makeup fairly natural, with a soft smoky eye and a pink lip.

Anderson is all about balancing glamor and comfort. She may know how to wear a dress on the red carpet, but she also likes to dress down when she’s at home. In 2021, she did an Instagram Live Q&A with fans and openly shared her hatred of bras!

“I don’t wear a bra anymore. I don’t wear a bra. I can’t wear a bra. I can’t, no. I can’t,” The crown said star, when asked about her favorite outfit during the COVID pandemic. “I’m sorry, but I don’t care if I reach my belly button, my breasts reach my belly button. I don’t wear a bra anymore. It’s just too uncomfortable.”

As for her favorite clothes, Anderson said she would wear “comfy” black sweatpants and a black hoodie “every day” if she could.

“(It’s) probably the same as my favorite out-of-lockdown outfit,” the actress added. “I’m so lazy.”
