Labour’s Jane Mudd has been elected Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent

Labour’s Jane Mudd has been elected Wales’ first female police and crime commissioner.

The leader of Newport City Council has been elected Gwent’s Police and Crime Commissioner, taking over from outgoing incumbent Jeff Cuthbert.

Ms Mudd received 28,476 votes, while Conservative Hannah Jarvis finished second with 21,919 votes.

Plaid Cymru’s Donna Cushing, Caerphilly County Borough Councilor and Hengoed ward representative, came third with 9,864 votes.

Lib Dem Mike Hamilton received 8,078 votes.

Turnout in Gwent was low, with only 15.63% of eligible voters actually voting.

In Caerphilly County Borough, only 13.93% of eligible voters voted.
