Jessica Simpson posts a makeup-free selfie and angers fans

Jessica Simpson celebrated her birthday not long ago with a refreshing departure from the typical glitz and glamor of celebrity culture, by sharing a makeup-free selfie on social media.

However, what started as an innocent gesture has sparked a debate, angering many people.

In her Instagram post, Jessica candidly captioned a photo of herself smiling at the camera: “43 makeup free (kinda. Ha. I curled my eyelashes.).”

Her signature blonde locks were combed back, showing off her trendy hoop earrings and dazzling bejeweled necklace.

While many of her fans applauded her for embracing her natural beauty, others wondered if the “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer was really “makeup free.”

Some people wrote admiring her glowing skin and inquiring about her skincare routine, with comments like: “What’s your skincare routine!?” and, “You never needed makeup. Beautiful as always, happy birthday!”

However, there were voices among her followers who pointed out that despite her claim to be makeup-free, Jessica appeared to be wearing mascara, lip gloss and concealer. One commenter noted: “Pretty, but not makeup-free. Mascara, lip gloss and concealer are not make-up free.”

Another concern raised by some fans was the potential impact of Jessica’s post on her impressionable young audience. “You look beautiful, but please don’t lie about not wearing makeup!” You can see the clumpiness of your mascara. It’s irresponsible to put this message out there as many in the comments are wondering why they don’t look so makeup-free,” one person said.

Another added: “This makes me sad because my young daughter is growing up with social media.”

Interestingly, Jessica herself has struggled with the pressures of social media and its effects on her daughters – especially since she’s been in the spotlight since she was a teenager.

In a recent interview with Bustle, the mother of three shared her concerns about the unrealistic beauty standards perpetuated by edited photos on social platforms.

“I wanted to post a picture because everyone is on my neck, Jessica, you gotta post, Jessica, you gotta post. I’m like, okay,” she said. “Then I start posting and I’m like, oh, but let’s go to the FaceApp.”

“I’m like, Oh, then it looks a little better. Oh, that makes it a little better. What did that do to me? What does that do to my daughter? What we do on social media is create this idea of what is beautiful and artificially arrange our lives – to look good for who?” Jessica continued.

Like many women in the spotlight these days, Jessica is navigating the complexities of both fame and motherhood — her makeup-free selfie only serves as a reminder of how influential celebrities are in shaping society’s perception of beauty and authenticity.
