Susan married Harry Wiebe on August 29, 1954 in Rosenhof, Saskatchewan. Before marriage, my mother worked for several families and assisted as a domestic helper. After marriage, they moved to Swift Current and started their married life. The early years brought many struggles, but perseverance prevailed as they enjoyed the many years they spent together. During her mother’s lifetime, she devoted herself largely to motherhood, but she also had a number of outside work experiences, including: dietary assistant for Swift Current Hospital, kitchen assistant at the A&W, chambermaid for the Horseshoe Lodge and West Wind Motel , and a store clerk for Peavey Mart. Through it all, she managed to help Harry with his many business ventures, cared for her family, attended sports field days, Boy Scout events, dance recitals and any other activities the children were involved in.
At the age of 69, Mom was diagnosed with leukemia. This disease did not stop mother from going on with life. She took it all with ease and was fortunate that it did not prevent her from normal activities other than regular trips to the cancer clinic in Saskatoon. Unfortunately, later in life she also suffered a broken hip, which limited her mobility somewhat, but she bravely continued to make the best of it.
Activities: included crocheting, word puzzles, visiting, coffee time, watching her hockey favorites, the Swift Current Bronco’s, along with her grandchildren’s hockey games, as well as their band festivals, dance recitals and school plays and her favorite physical activity was her regular water exercises at the Swift Current- pool that kept her active.
Later in her life, our mother had a number of falls that made life difficult. She moved from her apartment in Riverview Estates to the Willows in Riverview Village Estates and when mobility became an issue, she moved to the Gull Lake Special Care Center. Fortunately, she was able to move back to Swift Current in “The Meadows,” where she enjoyed visiting and attending various activities such as church programs and special groups. We as a family are very grateful for the excellent care provided to Mom by the staff at Riverview Village Estates ‘Willows’, Gull Lake Special Care Center and The Meadows.
Susan passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Swift Current at the Meadows. God will now care for her in heaven and she will no longer have to deal with earthly pain.
