The dog shelter in Chisinau is at risk of being closed if there is no permit

Although Chisinau Municipality has a stray dog shelter, catching animals requires a permit from the National Food Safety Agency, but its issuance is delayed, according to Deputy Mayor Ilie Ceban. So far this year, City Hall has sent at least 17 requests to the Agency asking that at least one veterinary office should be opened on the territory of the shelter. The Agency inspectors went to the reception center for inspection, but the permit was not issued.

Ilie Ceban noted that the shelter is at risk of being closed. The municipality created conditions to meet the requirements and submitted them to specialists, but the permit was not issued. Without this, municipal services cannot catch dogs. Meanwhile, the animals gather in large numbers, especially in parks.

Alexandr Manciu, the Agency’s deputy director general responsible for the sanitary-veterinary sector, confirmed that an application had been submitted to one of the sub-departments responsible for the Chisinau Municipality to obtain the sanitary-veterinary permit for the dog shelter . . The fact that this has not been issued shows that shortcomings have been identified and that the conditions need to be adjusted. An application must then be submitted again.

“The colleagues who directly received and investigated this request have informed of the shortcomings that need to be addressed. And once they are deleted, a new request must be made. If they meet all the requirements, they will receive the sanitary-veterinary approval,” says Alexandr Manciu, who admits, however, that the shortcomings are minor.
