Community Invited to Fashion Show, Event for High School Students | E-news

The WVU Fashion, Dress and Merchandising program invites the community to explore the future of fashion tomorrow (May 3) at 7:30 PM at the Erickson Alumni Center.

The event is a unique opportunity for Morgantown and surrounding communities, offering a fashion show close to home while providing students with an essential hands-on experience.

Anyone who is curious about fashion or wants to support emerging designers is welcome.

“It’s a professional show with professional models,” said Colleen Moretz, associate professor of fashion, apparel and merchandising. “The audience will experience the creativity of the students who have dedicated themselves to their designs all year and the diversity of their aesthetics.”

Students focused on sustainability and how the fashion industry can take responsibility for its impact on the environment by using new technologies and handmade techniques to create unique pieces with minimal environmental impact. In addition to technology and sustainability, students were challenged to focus on creating seasonless and gender-neutral clothing.

Before the show, “Behind the Scenes” will offer hands-on activities related to the fashion industry for high school students interested in fashion, textiles or merchandising in the South Agricultural Sciences Building, Room 141G, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The cost for this additional event is $10 and registration is required.
