Hopeson Adorye, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has reprimanded the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Constituency, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, over his actions during the just concluded Ejisu by-election.

He stated that the envelope captured by the Kwadaso MP as the camera fell on the table of the EC officials contained money intended to influence the individuals to favor the NPP candidate in the by-election.

He condemned the action and called on the competent institutions to investigate the matter, stating that what he did amounted to a crime that should not be tolerated.

“We all saw the Kwadaso MP dropping money on the table. Has any Member of Parliament ever stopped by the European Commission office to take them to lunch in the last four years? Kingsley Nyarko should be arrested and brought to justice.

“Don’t you know it is a crime to give money under such circumstances? I believe there was cash in the envelope,” he said in Twi while speaking in an interview with Oyerepa TV and followed by GhanaWeb.

Hopeson also praised independent candidate Kwabena Aduomi for giving the ruling party a run for its money despite defeat.

“In a nutshell, the process went well. I will commend my candidate (Kwabena Aduomi) for getting that number of votes because an individual fighting the state is not easy,” he added.

His comments follow a video that emerged online showing Kwadaso MP, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, dropping an envelope on a table where Electoral Commission (EC) officials were stationed during the Ejisu elections.

The EC investigation later found that the MP said he had instructed civil servants to use the money for their lunch.

However, a section of the public has dismissed the claims and called for the MP to be dealt with to prevent similar occurrences in the near future.

Meanwhile, the NPP candidate, Kwabena Boateng, defeated his nearest competitor, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, to win the Ejisu by-election.
