Foreigners who make bomb jokes risk deportation

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco warned foreigners on Thursday (May 2) against making bomb jokes.

“We urge all foreigners to be careful and not make statements or jokes that could be considered a threat to security,” he said.

“Our country remains hospitable to foreigners, but only to those who follow our laws,” the commissioner added.

Tansingco made the warning after Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR412 had a delayed flight to Japan on Wednesday (May 1) after an unidentified woman made a bomb threat to authorities.

“Bomb jokes or comments referring to explosives are not taken lightly, especially in sensitive environments such as airports,” Tansingco said.

“Such actions could be construed as threats and could lead to exclusion or deportation if foreigners are involved,” he added.
