The state issues a burn ban for 54 counties in Georgia.

A burn ban went into effect this week in 54 Georgia counties, according to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

The ban will last until September 30 to help reduce air concerns surrounding ozone pollutants, according to a news release from the Georgia Forestry Commission.

The ban allows campfires, cooking fires and some agricultural fires in counties located mainly in northern and central Georgia.

The ban prohibits fires such as burning debris in yards and burns while clearing land.

The counties affected by the ban are Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Bibb, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Columbia, Coweta, Crawford, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gordon, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Lumpkin, Madison, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Paulding, Peach, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Putnam, Richmond, Rockdale, Spalding, Troup, Twiggs, Upson, Walker and Walton.
