Can you give responsibility for the country to Cong, who has a history of plunder: PM Modi /IANS

New Delhi, May 1 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday challenged the Congress and the INDIA bloc to declare that they would not insist on religion-based reservations and said they must promise and give it in writing as their intentions cannot be believed.

Addressing a public meeting at Banaskantha in Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi said, “My challenge to the Shehzada, Congress and their entire ecosystem is to declare that they neither want to give reservation on the basis of religion nor distort the Constitution.”

He also said that the INDIA bloc would never promise this as their intentions are not clear.

The Prime Minister further said that the BJP will always protect and preserve the fundamental nature of the Constitution as given by BR Ambedkar.

He further accused the INDIA bloc and its ecosystem of trying to take away the rights of the SCs, STs and the tribals by bringing the minorities – especially Muslims – under the OBC category.

“They have done it before in Andhra Pradesh and are now trying to do the same in Karnataka. They should indicate in writing that they will not make reservations on the basis of religion,” Prime Minister Modi said at the public meeting.

Notably, the Congress manifesto has drawn immense criticism from the BJP over its promise of a constitutional amendment to increase the 50 per cent limit on reservations for SC, ST and OBCs. Also, the party’s stand for caste-based census and redistribution has accordingly sparked anger among various political sections.
