Stange law firm hires family lawyers Thomas Ewick and Courtnie

Mr. Ewick joins Stange Law Firm as a Senior Associate Attorney. He received his Juris Doctorate from Indiana University School of Law in May 2002 and his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Indiana State University in May 1998. During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Ewick received, among other awards, the R. Christopher Perry Memorial Pre -Law Price. Prior to joining Stange Law Firm, Mr. Ewick most recently worked for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office as an Assistant Attorney General and then as an Assistant Unit Supervisor. Here he was tasked with supervising the Assistant Attorneys Generals of the Civil Trials Unit of the General Law Bureau, who represented government agencies and employees in state and federal courts and in proceedings before the Illinois Civil Service Commission, the State Police Merit Board and the Illinois Humans Rights. Commission, drafting and filing answers to complaints, pleadings, motions, and memoranda of law, responding to discovery requests, and trying cases before judges and juries. In total, Mr. Ewick brings more than 20 years of legal experience as an attorney to his role at Stange Law Firm.

Ms. Swearingen also works at Stange Law Firm as a Senior Associate Attorney. She attended Florida A&M University College of Law in Orlando, Florida, where she received her juris doctorate in 2013. Before law school, she received her Bachelor of Arts in political science and psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Ms. Swearingen is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Project Management at the University of Kansas. Prior to joining Stange Law Firm, she most recently served as a Staff Attorney for the State of Illinois at the Legislative Reference Bureau. In this role, she worked on drafting bills, resolutions and amendments at the request of members of the General Assembly, staff, state employees and lobbyists. She also provided advice to members and staff of the General Assembly on potential legal issues of bills and amendments, and conducted research on Illinois statutes, administrative rules and case law.
