MoT emphasizes the public bus infrastructure programme

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) highlighted its public bus infrastructure program during the Autonomous e-Mobility Forum that concluded on Wednesday. The program assumes significance as it supports the strategy for the gradual and comprehensive electrification of public buses to reach 100% by 2030. It also provides an integrated, sustainable public transport network that covers all urban areas across the country, forming a coherent transport unit. including public buses, metro and tram networks in Doha. MoT’s pavilion showcased key features of the program, such as improving the mobility of individuals and supporting innovation in transportation, delivering environmentally sustainable transportation networks and improving road safety. The pavilion also highlighted key initiatives as part of the program and the progress of public transport’s transition to a more sustainable mode. The program consists of eight bus stations in Al Sudan, Msheireb, Al Gharrafa, Lusail, Al Wakra, Education City, Industrial Area and West Bay Central. There are also four bus depots in Lusail, the new industrial area, Al Wakra and Al Rayyan. All these facilities are supported by an electric charging infrastructure. The program also includes four Park and Ride parking locations in Al Qassar, Al Wakra, Lusail and Education City, which can accommodate more than 1,000 vehicles. The Lusail bus depot has been developed on an area of ​​over 400,000 m² and is listed in Guinness World Records as the world’s largest e-bus depot, with a capacity of 478 buses. It is the first country in the Middle East to rely on solar energy; as it includes approximately 11,000 solar PV panels generating 4-6MW of power daily to power the buildings, in line with Qatar’s National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE) and the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
