Workshops focused on sustainable gardens

GREEN thumbs are invited to take part in a series of sustainability and self-sufficiency workshops hosted by Golden Plains Shire staff.

The sessions, which start in late April, are facilitated by horticulturist Craig Castree and bring together knowledge learned during the edible garden webinars.

The aim of the workshops is to help participants take their gardening skills to the next level.

The first session will be held on Sunday 27th April in Dereel, there will be one session on Saturday 25th May in Smythesdale and two in Bannockburn on Saturday 4th May and Sunday 29th June.

For those who cannot attend in person, there will be a Zoom online workshop on Wednesday, June 5.

Topics covered in the workshops include improving soil health, innovative gardening methods, reducing operating costs, harvesting and conservation.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Brett Cunningham said the sessions are an opportunity to learn new skills.

“Whether you are new to edible gardens or have attended a webinar before, these workshops are a fantastic opportunity to improve your gardening skills and develop the necessary skills to care for your garden,” he said.

“We look forward to welcoming back Craig and his wealth of knowledge in the food and horticulture sectors as we continue to deliver this insightful and highly successful program to our local community.”
