Italian tourist duped of 100 euros in Khajuraho and says: ‘I can’t trust anyone in India now’

Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A man from Gwalior allegedly robbed an Italian tourist of Euro 100 (Indian rupees 9,000) on the pretext of exchanging money in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The case came to light after the tourist shared a video on social media on Tuesday in which she expressed her excruciating pain and said she could no longer trust anyone.

After coming across the video, Gwalior police took cognizance of the matter and initiated an investigation.

“I trusted the Indian boy, I can’t trust anyone now!”

“Hi! I’m Eliza. I came to Khajuraho with an Indian boy I met on the train. In Khajuraho I tried to exchange my money (euros) into rupees, but it didn’t work. The Indian boy then said that he would help exchange the money, so I gave him 100 euros, but he never came back. I trusted him, but now I can’t trust anyone,” the Italian tourist said in her video.

The suspect bought water bottles and coffee for tourists to gain their trust.

According to the information, Eliza came to India from Italy along with her boyfriend Andre. They traveled from Agra to Khajuraho via Gwalior. At the Udaipur-Khajuraho Intercity, the tourist duo met a young man who introduced himself as Raghav Sharma, a resident of Gwalior. He gained their trust by buying him water bottles and coffee as the tourists had no Indian money. However, once the three reached the western temple of Khajuraho, Raghav escaped with 100 euros on the pretext of helping the tourist convert the money into Indian rupees.

Later, when Raghav didn’t return for an hour, Eliza realized she had been scammed. Although she did not file a complaint with the police, Elizah shared a video online informing them about the case. The police have now taken up the case after being informed about the incident.
