‘Greater crime than violating MCC’: Akhilesh Yadav in Covishield riot | Latest news India

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday took aim at the BJP-led Central government amid concerns over possible rare side effects of the AstraZeneca-Oxford Covid-19 vaccine, saying the administration of Covishield vaccine doses is a bigger crime than violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

While talking to reporters, Yadav said action must be taken against those who are endangering the lives of Indians. “… ‘Ek May aur BJP gayi’… Think of what the people who have the certificate and took vaccines have to go through. Those who gave them the vaccines, the government, action should be taken against them “They have endangered the lives of common people. If scientists and experts say the vaccine can cause heart and other health problems, who should be held responsible,” news agency ANI quoted Yadav as saying.

His comments came after another opposition leader, Saurabh Bharadwaj of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), alleged that the Center continued to insist that Indians take the Covishield shot even after reports suggested that there could be side effects from it AstraZeneca vaccine.

He also said that many people are speculating on a link between the coronavirus vaccine and the deaths of young people due to collapses.

The Delhi minister later questioned the BJP-led Center on what plan it has to save Indians now that vaccine manufacturing company AstraZeneca has itself admitted that the vaccine can cause heart attacks and other side effects in rare cases.

Covishield Row:

The concerns arose after UK-based pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca admitted that its COVID-19 vaccine could cause a side effect linked to blood clots in “very rare cases”. AstraZeneca admitted this in a legal document filed with the Supreme Court in February.

However, the company reaffirmed the safety of vaccines and said “patient safety” is their “first priority.” “Our condolences go out to everyone who has lost loved ones or reported health problems. Patient safety is our top priority, and regulators have clear and strict standards to ensure the safe use of all medicines, including vaccines,” an AstraZeneca spokesperson said in a statement.

The AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, Vaxzevria, was marketed in India as Covishield and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII).
