Sureclean launches a new environmental control division

Industrial cleaning specialists Sureclean have launched Sureresponse, a dedicated environmental response unit to help clean up oil spills.

The Sureresponse sub-brand will be based in the group’s three-acre factory at its headquarters in Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire. The new division is expected to create jobs for more than 30 people, with Sureclean aiming to achieve a turnover of £3 million.

Sureresponse is led by Mark Shepherd, as director of environmental response, who brings more than 25 years of experience in managing global emergency and spill responses.

Mr Shepherd, who is also chairman of the UK Spill Response Association, which is responsible for guiding the industry to anticipate and address future and emerging risks, said the subdivision is timely for a rapidly changing energy sector.

“Sureresponse is driven by a changing marketplace at a time when the global energy industry needs companies that lead the way with progress and transformation at their core, and companies that are willing to take positive action to strengthen the commitment to environmental sustainability.

“Sureresponse is branded to position the company to provide a prevention, preparedness and response service by leveraging our years of combined experience that is a testament to our preparedness in the event of a major incident.

“As a team we are passionate about protecting the planet with high quality industrial cleaning and now with an additional environmental emergency response service like Sureresponse. With many decades of operational experience, this specialized service is supported by the largest fleet of industrial, oil spill and emergency response equipment.”

Sureresponse has the internal capacity to support local, national and global responses to environmental incidents.

It builds on Seacor’s legacy through NRC and its oil spill expertise, equipment and experience, including a remarkable track record of becoming the second largest commercial oil spill response provider in the world.

Simon Gibb, CEO of Sureclean, said: “Sureclean is focused on promoting environmental sustainability and reducing waste and therefore advances the industry’s capabilities for an efficient response to the environment.

“It is an exciting step forward for Sureclean as we launch a sub-brand to expand our capabilities and underline our position as the market leader in specialist industrial cleaning. Strengthened by a deep understanding of the environmental response sector, combined with a broad network of specialists and response providers around the world, our additional goal is to become the industry’s go-to service wherever and whenever in the world hazardous materials are encountered are spilled.”

With operating bases in Britain, the UAE, Trinidad and Kurdistan, the Sureresponse news follows a period of continued growth for Sureclean.

In September 2023, the company announced the opening of its £1.25 million NORM decontamination facility at its headquarters in Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire.

The company is on a recruitment drive to move forward with its growth plans.
