Varuthini Ekadashi 2024: Ekadashi is considered the most auspicious day for fast performance. According to Hindu religion, this day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu. On this day, Vishnu devotees all over the world observe fasting and perform various religious and spiritual activities. There are a total of 24 Ekadashi celebrations in a year and two Ekadashi celebrations fall every month during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. Each Ekadashi has a special meaning and a different story. This time it will be Varuthini Ekadashi, which will take place on May 4, 2024 during Krishna Paksha in the month of Vaishakha.

Varuthini Ekadashi 2024: Meaning

According to Hindu scriptures, Ekadashi has great religious significance among Hindus. Varuthini Ekadashi falls in the month of Vaishakha as per Purnimanta calendar and as per Amavasyant calendar it falls in the month of Chaitra which is considered in South India. Devotees observe strict fast on this auspicious day of Ekadashi and dedicate this day to worshiping Lord Vishnu. They perform puja and various religious activities. Some devotees even get involved in spiritual activities like dhyan yoga and meditation and observe maun vrat for a day to keep their minds calm and relaxed. This Ekadashi is also popularly called Baruthani Ekadashi. On this day, people offer prayers to Vamana Avtar of Lord Vishnu and it is believed that by observing fasting on this Ekadashi, people are protected from any kind of evil energy and negativity.

Varuthini Ekadashi 2024: Story

According to the Hindi scriptures, it is believed that one day Lord Shiva became angry with Lord Brahma and removed his fifth head. Lord Brahma cursed Lord Shiva and to get free from this curse, Lord Vishnu suggested him to observe Varuthini Ekadashi Vrat. He did exactly the same as suggested by Lord Vishnu and was freed from this curse. So it is believed that anyone who thinks that he is suffering from any form of curse related to the current or past birth, or thinks that he has done something wrong to someone. consciously or unconsciously they have to observe this Ekadashi with devotion and seek forgiveness from Lord Vishnu to be freed from the curse. It is also believed that to the devotees who fast with great devotion on this day, Lord Vishnu grants them the fruits they obtain through strict penance.
Varuthini Ekadashi 2024: Puja Rituals

1. Wake up early in the morning and take a bath first. They have to clean the house and especially the puja room where they want to worship. Take an idol of Lord Vishnu, Laddoo Gopal if they have one, and an idol of Lord Krishna. Give them a bath and place them on a wooden board. Decorate them with flowers, clothes. Light a diya and place tilak on their foreheads. Keep fruits, Tulsi Patra or whatever you have prepared for the puja like panchamrit and homemade sweets. Recite Vishnu Sahasranama and chant different mantras to seek blessings of Lord Vishnu. The fast is broken the next day during parana time. Those who are unable to observe strict fasting can eat sattvik foods, including fruits, dairy products and fried potato with cottage cheese. It is recommended to use rock salt instead of regular salt.
