NYPD Officers Seriously Injure Suspect In Chelsea

The police shot and one man seriously injured in Chelsea Tuesday, police said.

The gunfire erupted near the corner of W. 24th St. and Seventh Ave. while police were making an arrest in a criminal case just before 2:45 p.m., police sources said.

The 25-year-old man was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition and a 26-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene.

One officer suffered a minor head wound during the brawl, but was not hit by any bullets.

After the shooting, police urged people to leave the area as they continued to investigate the shooting Tuesday afternoon.
