Man arrested for counterfeit money

One person has been arrested in Ejisu in the Ashanti Region for possessing counterfeit money in an attempt to defraud a popular cafe owner.

The suspect, Jackson Adjei, had used a counterfeit 200 cedis note to buy a fruit drink at a popular pub in the area on Friday evening. It was only after he left after getting his change that the owner realized the money was counterfeit.

He tried to repeat a similar act on Saturday but was fished out and arrested by the pub’s owner with the help of other customers, who handed him over to police.

The counterfeit 200 cedis note was given to the police as evidence.

The suspect was searched at the station and an additional counterfeit 200 cedis note was recovered from his bag.

Police have since arrested him and are investigating his modus operandi, suggesting he will soon be tried in court.
