Azerbaijani travelers made up 7% of total tourist arrivals in Iran in 2023, Azernieuws reports, citing the World Travel and Tourism Council.

The data shows that Iran experienced a remarkable 21% increase in its tourism sector last year, indicating a strong recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the reporting period, the tourism sector contributed 4.7% to the national economy.

About 6.6% of the working population, equivalent to approximately 1.6 million people, was employed in this sector.

Moreover, Azerbaijan’s hotel industry has experienced a remarkable rise over the past decade, marking a major milestone in the country’s tourism sector. Central to this growth is Baku, the capital, which has emerged as a beacon of excellence in the hospitality industry.

The expansion and modernization of Azerbaijan’s hotel infrastructure has played a crucial role in attracting tourists and improving the overall tourism experience. The country has invested in improving accommodation options, amenities and service standards to meet the diverse needs of domestic and international travelers.

Furthermore, its commitment to meeting international standards has positioned Azerbaijan as a competitive player in the global tourism market. By aligning with recognized benchmarks, the country’s hotels have broadened their appeal to discerning travelers seeking quality experiences.

As Azerbaijan continues to prioritize the development of its tourism sector, cooperation and knowledge exchange with international partners, such as BSEC Member States, will be of great importance. The exchange of best practices and expertise will further strengthen the industry’s growth trajectory and promote the development of sustainable tourism.
