Elanco launches VitaVet platform to support veterinary professionals

In honor of World Veterinarian Day, Elanco Animal Health has launched VitaVet, a platform focused on providing support to the veterinary community. The platform provides useful advice aimed at improving both the professional and personal well-being of veterinarians. This initiative highlights the essential role of veterinarians in health and emphasizes the importance of caring for their health and well-being.

As part of the VitaVet initiative, the Elanco team has created VitaVet treats specifically designed for veterinary professionals. More than 6,700 clinics in Spain and Portugal received a box of VitaVet sweets as a gift in the week of April 22. In addition, Elanco volunteers distributed VitaVet treats at veterinary clinics on April 24 and 25 to show their support for the veterinary community.

Amanda André, veterinary and marketing manager at Elanco Animal Health, emphasized the importance of supporting veterinary professionals dealing with high levels of stress, burnout and anxiety. The VitaVet platform aims to help veterinarians overcome these challenges and improve their well-being with science-based recommendations developed in collaboration with renowned experts.

The VitaVet initiative is part of Vetnia, a program promoted by Elanco to support the veterinary profession, advance the knowledge and training of professionals and provide effective and safe patient care solutions. More information about the initiative can be found at www.vetnia.es.

Research has shown that veterinarians, like other healthcare professionals, face high levels of stress due to long working hours, contact with suffering animals and difficult ethical decisions. A recent survey in Spain found that 77% of veterinarians show signs of work stress, while 14% experience high levels of stress. Additionally, 1 in 2 study participants exhibit high anxiety indicators.

The study’s findings underscore the importance of veterinarians caring for their emotional well-being and seeking help when needed. It is crucial that professionals, institutions, companies and society work together to address and mitigate the causes and consequences of burnout in veterinary practice.

In light of these challenges, Elanco’s VitaVet platform provides valuable support and resources to help veterinary professionals improve their well-being and cope with the demands of their profession.
