Two dogs seized after they were suspected of killing 24 sheep in North Cowichan

Two dogs suspected of killing at least 20 sheep and a deer have been seized in North Cowichan.

The council released information about the incident, stating that the dogs may have been responsible for deaths on neighboring farms and properties in late March.

It is believed that the pair of dogs entered a farm on March 29 and attacked a flock of sheep, resulting in the deaths of several animals.

Later that same day, the dogs attacked another farm property, killing several adult sheep.

In addition, a pregnant deer was attacked and killed in a nearby area.

A warrant was approved and on April 17, an Animal Control officer, two North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP officers and two North Cowichan Bylaw team members seized the two dogs.

The animals are being held while investigations and legal proceedings continue, the city said.

“A number of measures are being considered, including the imposition of fines and other charges, subject to the completion of the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings,” a statement from the municipality said.
