A North Fort Myers man is charged with murder after Sunday’s shooting

The sheriff’s office said Sunday evening that they had detained two people for questioning.

One person faces charges and one man is dead after a North Fort Myers man shot into the back of a pickup truck during an argument as the victim tried to drive away.

Andrew Perkins, 22, faces one charge of second-degree murder and one charge of attempted second-degree murder after authorities say he shot into a vehicle with two people inside.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the first responding officers found a crashed pickup with multiple bullet holes in the rear of the cab and in the bed in the 18200 block of Roberts Road. They said there was a man dead in the driver’s seat.

The sheriff’s office said detectives learned that Perkins was at his residence and had walked to the end of his driveway, where he got into a verbal altercation with the victim.

As the victim began to drive away, Perkins shot the back of the truck several times with a rifle. A passenger in the pickup was uninjured.

During the investigation, the sheriff’s office said they arrested two individuals while interviewing them.

Around 6 a.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office said one arrest had been made as investigators completed Perkins’ booking process.

Perkins is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment on June 3. No bond information was available Monday morning before publication.
